HYLO Open: Window of Opportunity

A trio of unheralded shuttlers will get their first taste of an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500 event when HYLO Open 2025 gets underway.

Kok Jing Hong of Malaysia and Englishmen Harry Huang and Alex Green earned last-minute entries following withdrawals in their respective categories. Kok and Huang stepped in after men’s singles top seed Anders Antonsen and fellow Dane Viktor Axelsen pulled out. Kok will face Kantaphon Wangcharoen while Huang meets Toma Junior Popov in the first round.

Green, and men’s doubles partner Zach Russ, take the place of Scottish twins Matthew and Christopher Grimley in the draw. They face a stern test against top seeds Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in their opener.

The tournament in Saarbrucken, Germany, also presents a vital opportunity for players chasing crucial ranking points to secure berths at HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2025. Several established names, including Hangzhou 2024 men’s doubles champions Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, as well as Loh Kean Yew, remain outside the qualifying spots.

Other withdrawals and promotions are as follows.

Withdrawals

Women’s singles: Kirsty Gilmour

Women’s doubles: Signe Schulz/Simona Pilgaard

Mixed doubles: Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei (top seeds)

Promotions

Women’s singles: Stefani Stoeva
