Smashing Stats: Thailand Open 2026

The HSBC BWF World Tour is back with the TOYOTA Thailand Open 2026, which means it’s time to dive into some cool stats.

  • Just three nations – China, Indonesia and Korea – have produced titlists in all five disciplines.
  • China remain the sole country to complete a sweep, doing so in 1999 and 2008.
  • Only Chinese Taipei have seeds in all five categories this time.
  • However, they have never produced winners in women’s doubles, in which they possess the third seeds.
  • Among returning former champions, Srikanth Kidambi has endured the longest wait for another title – 13 years since his triumph in 2013.
  • Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty are the only top seeds with previous success (2019, 2024).
  • Indonesia, traditionally dominant in men’s doubles, have not won the category since Berry Angriawan/Hardianto captured the crown in 2017. Former world No.9s Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin are marking their comeback as a pair after two years in Bangkok.
  • Despite that, Indonesia are still the most successful in the department with 12 wins, three more than Korea.
  • Chen Yu Fei stands to emerge as the first Chinese women’s singles player in 19 years to retain her title after Zhu Lin in 2007.
  • Thanks to her exploits in 2025, China have claimed at least one event at the last four Thailand Opens.
  • It’s however been 15 years since they scooped the men’s singles, through Chen Long in 2011. With Shi Yu Qi the top seed, they have a strong chance of ending that drought.
  • Should Shi succeed, China will then have the joint-most titles (10) with Indonesia in the discipline.
  • A successful title defence for second seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn will make him the maiden home singles player in competition history to win back-to-back editions.

Standout Stat: Vitidsarn could also become the first men’s singles players since Joko Suprianto in 1994 to win three titles.
