Orleans Masters: Thrilling Win for Garcia/Rodriguez

Spain’s Ruben Garcia and Lucia Rodriguez bounced back from a run of three straight first round defeats with a thrilling quarterfinal win over Zhu Yi Jun/Li Qian at Orleans Masters 2026.

The world No.42 pair, who have won only one match from their last five tournaments, scored a morale-boosting win over recent Swiss Open runners-up Zhu Yi Jun/Li Qian 21-23 23-21 21-19.

Garcia/Rodriguez take on Mathias Christiansen/Alexandra BØje, with the Danes progressing at the cost of Indonesian opponents. The second seeds were tested in a close first game by Amri Syahnawi/Nita Violina Marwah but wrapped up the match in straight games, 21-19 21-16.

It was a good day for Europe overall. In the top half, home hopefuls Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue took down Swiss Open champions Cheng Xing/Zhang Chi 21-9 21-23 21-17 to make their second straight final.

In men’s doubles, highflying Indonesian pair Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin crashlanded at the hands of Christian Faust KjÆr/Rasmus KjÆr.

The Kjaers, playing only their seventh tournament together, overcame a second-game setback to rein in the second seeds 21-18 12-21 21-14 on a good day for Europe.

» On a mostly disappointing day for China, qualifier Hu Zhe An brought them some cheer by beating top seed Chou Tien Chen in three games.

» The men’s singles will feature two Frenchmen in opposite semifinals, with Toma Junior Popov taking on Hu Zhe An and second seed Alex Lanier facing Yudai Okimoto.

» Two Indians made the women’s singles semifinals, with Isharani Baruah achieving her best result on the HSBC BWF World Tour so far. Baruah is up against Pitchamon Opatniputh, while her compatriot Tanvi Sharma faces Nozomi Okuhara.
