Gregoria Mariska Tunjung reached her first semifinals since January as the world No.11 battled past home hope Asuka Takahashi at Kumamoto Masters Japan 2025.
The Indonesian has battled health issues in the recent past, complaining of vertigo, and has fallen in the early rounds of her last three tournaments. On Friday she overcame a first game loss to get past Takahashi 16-21 21-14 21-13, marking her second semifinal this year, and her first since India Open 2025.
In the last four, Tunjung takes on recent Korea Masters winner Chiu Pin-Chian, while in the top half, veterans Ratchanok Intanon and Nozomi Okuhara face off.
In men’s singles, Lakshya Sen powered past third seed Loh Kean Yew 21-13 21-17 to set up a semifinal against home hope Kenta Nishimoto, while in the top half, another local favourite, Kodai Naraoka, takes on Wang Tzu Wei.
