Fourth seeds Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto stopped returning pair Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan in their tracks, overcoming the Olympic champions in straight games to enter the semifinals of the VICTOR SUWON Korea Open 2025.
Interestingly, their only previous clash – a three-game epic – had come four years ago, at the Uber Cup in 2021. There was a lot of interest in Chen and Jia’s form, considering they had recombined after extended stints with other partners. Against their Japanese fellow veterans, however, the Chinese duo couldn’t recapture their best form as they went down 21-19 21-13.
For the Japanese, it marks a turnaround in form as their last semifinal was at the All England in March.

It will be an all-Japan semifinal, with Fukushima/Matsumoto facing compatriots Rin Iwanaga/Kie Nakanishi. The bottom half will see an all-Korea encounter, as third seeds Baek Ha Na/Lee So Hee face second seeds Kim Hye Jeong/Kong Hee Yong.
In women’s singles, An Se Young stayed on track for her eighth title this season. The top seed overcame rising star Tomoka Miyazaki 21-7 21-17 and will take on Pornpawee Chochuwong for a spot in the final.
Men’s singles saw Jonatan Christie make his first semifinal since the Indonesia Masters in January. The Indonesian, who has struggled to find form this season, enjoyed a straight games win over Kenta Nishimoto.
Christie will next face his young compatriot Alwi Farhan, who got the better of recent China Masters champion Weng Hong Yang, 4-21 21-16 21-17.
The top half will see Anders Antonsen take on veteran Chou Tien Chen.
