Anthony Sinisuka Ginting is due to make his first appearance in over six months with the former world No.2 slated to take on home favourite Kodai Naraoka in the first round of the DAIHATSU Japan Open 2025.
Ginting hasn’t played since the PETRONAS Malaysia Open in January due to injury, and his ranking has fallen to No.50.
Also making a comeback, although from a shorter layoff, will be his compatriot Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, whose last tournament was the Badminton Asia Championships in April. No.8 seed Tunjung too faces a local player, Riko Gunji, in the second quarter which has players like Han Yue, Beiwen Zhang and Gao Fangjie.

In men’s doubles, Indonesia are fielding scratch combination Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri – interestingly, the duo take on countrymen Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani in the opening round.
While men’s singles defending champion and No.8 seed Alex Lanier’s opening test will come from Leong Jun Hao, women’s singles defending champion and four-time winner Akane Yamaguchi will be up against Mia Blichfeldt.
