German Open: Kim/Seo’s Dream Run Continues

Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae made the third straight final of their partnership, entering the title round of the YONEX German Open 2025.

The Koreans, who came together this season and won the PETRONAS Malaysia Open and were runners-up at the YONEX-SUNRISE India Open, continued their dream run with their third final in three tournaments, beating England’s Ben Lane/Sean Vendy 21-14 21-19.

They face Popov brothers Christo and Toma Junior, who held off Takumi Nomura/Yuichi Shimogami 21-13 22-20 in the other semifinal.

Robin Tabeling and Alexandra Boje

It was a good day for new combinations, with mixed doubles too going the way of newly-formed pairs. Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja, playing only their second tournament together, survived a thriller against Dhruv Kapila/Tanisha Crasto in an hour-long semifinal, 25-23 10-21 21-15. They face new Dutch-Danish combo Robin Tabeling/Alexandra BØje, who too were taken the distance in their semifinal by Rasmus Espersen/Amalie Kudsk 21-19 19-21 21-16.

Meanwhile, men’s singles top seed Viktor Axelsen took one step closer to achieving his first German Open title after overcoming Toma Junior Popov in 77 minutes, 21-19 17-21 21-17. The Dane will be up against familiar foe Loh Kean Yew, who had an easier route to the final after dispatching Koo Takahashi 21-13 21-14.

Singapore have a shot at another title, with Yeo Jia Min taking on Vietnam’s Nguyen Thuy Linh in the women’s singles final.

Women’s doubles will see Stoeva sisters Gabriela and Stefani up against Mizuki Otake/Miyu Takahashi.
