Olympic champion Chen Qing Chen will return to the HSBC BWF World Tour with new partner Wang Ting Ge, with the YONEX German Open 2025 providing the stage.
Chen has largely been out of action since winning the Paris 2024 gold medal. She was at the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2024 with Jia Yi Fan, where the pair made the semifinals; this year she entered the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship 2025 in Qingdao, where she played one match with Wang Ting Ge. The partnership will continue into the Orleans Masters next week.
Chen/Wang’s first test will be against Paulina Hankiewicz/Kornelia Marczak of Poland in the first round.
Meanwhile, in men’s doubles, World Junior champions Kang Khai Xing/Aaron Tai start their campaign against USA’s Chen Zhi Yi/Presley Smith, while Malaysia Open champions Kim Won Ho/Seo Seung Jae start against Scotland’s Alexander Dunn/Adam Pringle.
Men’s singles top seed Viktor Axelsen begins his campaign for a first German Open title with a first round against Japan’s Riku Hatano, with the possibility of a second round against 2023 World Junior champion Alwi Farhan.
