German Open: Door Opens for Kim

The withdrawal of top-seeded compatriot An Se Young has presented Kim Ga Eun with a chance to win her second HSBC BWF World Tour title at YONEX German Open 2024.

Kim took home her first winner’s medal from the Korea Masters in November. The 26-year-old opens her campaign in the second round after getting a bye.

Second seed Kim’s biggest threat, however, could come in the form of former world champion Ratchanok Intanon, who is in the same bottom half as the Korean. The Thai veteran showed gradual improvement in the Asian leg in January after missing the last three months of 2023 through injury.

The following players have been promoted to the main draw:

Men’s singles

  1. Pablo Abian (Jonathan Matias)
  2. Cheam June Wei (Kiran George)
  3. Ade Resky Dwicahyo (Ng Tze Yong)

Women’s singles

  1. Rachael Darragh (top seed An Se Young)
  2. Kaloyana Nalbantova (Neslihan Arin)
