Malaysia Open: Big Super 1000 Welcome

As many as six players will be making their Super 1000 debut on the HSBC BWF World Tour this week in Kuala Lumpur.

Following the withdrawals of some players, Lee Chia Hao, Pornpicha Choeikeewong, Rutaparna Panda/Swetaparna Panda, Angela Yu and Zhang Chi have moved up to the main draw of the PETRONAS Malaysia Open 2024 – the new season’s first event.

The occasion is especially meaningful for Thai women’s singles player Choeikeewong, whose highest-level prior to this was Super 300.

These are the players who have been promoted:

Men’s singles

  1. Lee Chia Hao (Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo)

Women’s singles

  1. Lianne Tan (Pornpawee Chochuwong)
  2. Aakarshi Kashyap (fifth seed Carolina Marin)
  3. Pornpicha Choeikeewong (Nozomi Okuhara)
  4. Thet Htar Thuzar (Kim Ga Eun)

Men’s doubles

  1. M.R. Arjun/Dhruv Kapila (Ayato Endo/Yuta Takei)

Women’s doubles

  1. Rutaparna Panda/Swetaparna Panda (Lanny Tria Mayasari/Ribka Sugiarto)
  2. Go Pei Kee/Low Yeen Yuan (Benyapa Aimsaard/Nuntakarn Aimsaard)
  3. Setyana Mapasa/Angela Yu (sixth seeds Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti)

Mixed doubles

  1. Cheng Xing/Zhang Chi (Mathias Christiansen/Alexandra BØje)
