Indonesia lost their top seeds in two events – men’ singles and doubles – at SATHIO GROUP Australian Open 2023 today.

Anthony Sinisuka Ginting was the first to exit, losing 21-16 17-21 21-14 to Prannoy H. S. after a marathon 73-minute battle.

Men’s doubles world No.1s Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto later followed suit, also going down in three games, 16-21 21-15 14-21, to Koreans Seo Seung Jae/Kang Min Hyuk in the last match of the day.

Prannoy’s last four opponent is upcoming younger compatriot Priyanshu Rajawat, who made his first Super 500 semifinal after a convincing takedown of his Thomas Cup-winning skipper Kidambi Srikanth 21-13 21-8.

Men’s doubles will also be missing its seconds seeds in the semis following Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik‘s surprising straight games defeat, 21-15 21-17, to Lu Ching Yao/Yang Po Han.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Lee Zii Jia is back in a World Tour semifinal, his first since the Swiss Open in March. The former world No.2 overcame stubborn compatriot Ng Tze Yong 17-21 26-24 21-19 in a tight tussle.
• American Beiwen Zhang continued her revival by ousting Pusarla V. Sindhu 21-12 21-17 to qualify for her third semifinal in four tournaments. She finished runner-up at Taipei Open in June and conceded a semifinal walkover due to injury to Ratchanok Intanon, whom she faces tomorrow, at the Canada Open four weeks ago.
• Resurgent Olympic champions Lee Yang/Wang Chi-Lin are into back-to-back semifinals for the first time since January 2021. They saw off Akira Koga/Taichi Saito 24-22 21-14.
