The China Open is a HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1000 tournament and is one of only three Super 1000 level tournaments, the other two being the All England Championships and the Indonesia Open. Held since 1986 as an annual badminton tournament organised by the Chinese Badminton Association. The tournaments has been hosted in various cities over the years.

The China Open became a BWF World Superseries
tournament in 2007. In 2011, the China Open was upgraded to a BWF World
Superseries Premier tournament and has been hosted at the Haixia Olympic Sports
Center, Fuzhou for the latest four editions.
Legend players such as Li Yongbo, Zhao Jianhua, Lin
Dan, Zhang Ning and Zhao Yun Lei have won numerous titles at the China Open.
Chen Long kept up his gold medal winning performance in Rio by taking the men’s
singles title at the China Open 2017 with his compatriots Chen Qingchen &
Jia Yifan and Zheng Siwei & Huang Yaqiong winning the women’s doubles and
mixed doubles. Chinese players have excelled with the hope crowd support, and
in the 11 years from 2001 to 2016, Chinese players made the podium in 49 of the
55 slots, a remarkable track record in the last decade.
