BLIBLI Indonesia Open 2018 History & Historical Results

The Indonesia Open is a HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1000 tournament and is one of only three Super 1000 level tournaments, the others being the China Open and the All England.

The tournament is one of two HSBC BWF World Tour tournaments being hosted in Indonesia, the other being the Indonesia Masters, a HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament.

Held since 1982 as an annual badminton tournament organised by Persatuan Bulutangkis Seluruh Indonesia (PBSI) and the tournament has been hosted in various cities in Indonesia with the more recent editions being hosted in Jakarta.

The Indonesia Open was part of the BWF World Superseries from 2007 – 2016. In 2011 the Indonesia Open was upgraded to a BWF World Superseries Premier tournament and it has been hosted at the iconic Istora Senayan in Jakarta, which was also the competition venue for the eight editions of Thomas Cup hosted in Indonesia, the five editions of Uber Cup and three editions of BWF World Championships, most recently in 2015.

Local heroes have always done well with the support of the Indonesian home crowd. Legendary players such as Icuk Sugiarto, Eddy Hartono, Susi Susanti, Rexy Mainaky and Taufik Hidayat won numerous titles of the Indonesia Open over the years. Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir kept up their Rio 2016 gold medal winning performance by taking out the mixed doubles titles at the BCA Indonesia Open 2017.
