YONEX Swiss Open 2018 History & Historical Results

The Swiss Open is a HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300 tournament. Held since 1955, it was a Grand Prix level tournament of the BWF tournament structure at the time and was hosted in the small St. Jakobshalle in Basel for many years.

The Swiss Open was one of the 12 BWF World Superseries tournaments from 2007 to 2010 and then in 2011 it became a Grand Prix Gold tournament and has been hosted since then at the big St. Jakobshalle.

The Swiss Open is popular tournament on the circuit for the world’s top players from China, Denmark, Japan, India, Korea and Indonesia. In 2014, the former World Junior Champion Viktor Axelsen won the men’s singles – the first European to do so this millennium. In the following year he nearly manages to defend his title but was defeated Srikanth who was the first Indian to win the men’s single’s title. Other than Srikanth Kidambi, Chinese players dominated the podium that year and won the other titles at the 25th Swiss Open with the London 2012 Olympic Champion, Yun Cai, showing his talent and consistency winning his second title at the Swiss Open more than 10 years after the first.
