Home nation hopes Wang Zhi Yi and Jiang Zhen Bang/Wei Ya Xin have been elevated to the top line of the draw in women’s singles and mixed doubles respectively at the VICTOR China Open 2024.
With the withdrawal of top seeded Olympic champion An Se Young, China’s third seed Wang assumed top spot in the women’s singles draw under the new Seed Withdrawal Movement and now faces Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt in tomorrow’s first round fixtures.
There were several seeded withdrawals in mixed doubles, with the entire Paris 2024 podium of gold medallists Zheng Si Wei/Huang Ya Qiong, the now-split silver medallists Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino, and bronze medallists Kim Won Ho/Jeong Na Eun all out.
Former world champion pairs Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai (Thailand) and Seo Seung Jae/Chae Yu Jong (Korea) also withdrew.
That meant last week’s winners of the LI-NING Hong Kong Open 2024, third seeds Jiang and Wei, moved to the top line of the draw where they will now play Chinese Taipei’s Chiu Hsiang Chieh/Lin Jhih Yun on Wednesday.
Other seeded pairs, Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei of Malaysia, and Hong Kong China’s Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet also moved places in the draw to face new opponents.
