Indonesia Open: Antonsen to Face Lee Cheuk Yiu

Anders Antonsen and Lee Cheuk Yiu haven’t faced off in nearly two and a half years; the third-seeded Dane will take on the hard-hitter from Hong Kong China at the top of the men’s singles draw at the Indonesia Open 2024 starting tomorrow.

Lee was originally drawn to face top seed Viktor Axelsen, but the Dane withdrew due to injury. Axelsen’s withdrawal saw his compatriot and No.4 seed Antonsen take his place at the top of the draw according to BWF World Tour Regulations

The reshuffling of the men’s singles draw saw world champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn due to face Loh Kean Yew, and Lee Zii Jia slated to play Ng Ka Long Angus. Vitidsarn and Loh have had an engaging rivalry, with four of their five matches going the distance.

There were two other high-profile withdrawals, with Tai Tzu Ying in women’s singles and men’s doubles defending champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty.

Fourth seed Tai’s place in the draw was taken by sixth seed Wang Zhi Yi, while top seeds Rankireddy/Shetty’s were replaced by world champions Kang Min Hyuk/Seo Seung Jae at the top of the draw.

The reshuffle meant newly-crowned Singapore Open 2024 champions He Ji Ting/Ren Xiang Yu have a stiff first test against sixth seeds Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi for the second time in two weeks.

The Chinese were taken the distance by Hoki/Kobayashi in the Singapore Open semifinals, and have to contend with the prospect of facing the world No.6 pair again.
